Hello! My name is Gemma. Welcome to Easy Mode Gaming!

As a child I played the occasional game here and there, but nothing worth shouting about. As I grew up I almost forgot about video games all together, until I met my boyfriend (Reece) at aged 20.
He has been a big gamer all of his life and it was his passion and enthusiasm that really got me back into the world of video games. You can read about him below!

I spent my masters year studying different games in a variety of contexts, but never really got around to playing many of the ones I wrote about. I tried to find out as much information as I could from outside sources, but what was the point if I wasn't experiencing them for myself?
​
Now, in my early 20s, I feel like I am experiencing the world of video gaming for the first time. I'm playing things I never thought I could, and enjoying things I never thought I would.
It can be so hard to be a beginner; the gaming world is a MASSIVE industry that can feel incredibly overwhelming at times. There's still so much that I don't know, but I'm looking forward to this adventure of finding out.

Most importantly, I've learned that you don't have to be an expert on everything to enjoy it.
You've just got to choose Easy Mode.

Alright? I'm Reece!

Like many other bearded white men, I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember and you'd be damn right in thinking I have some things to say about them. But after years of low character outbursts on Twitter, it was time to find an avenue where I could actually express these opinions in some semi-long-form-think-pieces from time to time.
​
So while Gemma's role here is to document her ongoing Gaming Journey; I'm going to be writing more..."reflective" pieces about the games I love, the games I've hated and anything in between, exploring in depth those titles and what I think they mean both to me AND the industry as a whole. Sure it's been done to death before, but what hasn't in this industry right?

Hello!
My name is Eddie O’Keeffe, I am a standup comedian from Cheltenham who has spent his entire life playing video games. Literally. I was born the same year Sonic 1 came out and I’m the youngest of four so my parents were like ‘this will stop the others from being jealous of the small child’ and it bloody worked. I genuinely have a rough skin patch on my left thumb because of that goddamn mega drive controller.
I’m also a massive wrestling fan because a fat, hairy, lazy eyed stand up comic who plays video games can’t be the only stereotype I fit into.
Raised as a Mega Drive and PlayStation fan, I don’t have as much experience with some of Nintendo’s finest as Reece does, and will be mainly focusing on games I grew up with as I look at levels within games that really stuck to me - whether it’s the aesthetic, the memories of playing those levels (both good and bad) and how a level feels playing back now I’m 20 years older than I was when Crash Bandicoot first got released and the STUPID WARTHOG WONT JUMP ON THE PISSING DRUM WHEN I PRESS X.
